As a teacher in a Title 1 school in rural Oklahoma, my students are faced with many challenges every day. The school qualifies 100% for free and reduced breakfast and lunch so that fact alone explains the low economic status of the community. The students represent thirty different Native American tribes plus a variety of other cultures. The school is the heart of the small, tight-knit community.
The students are excited to come to the school where the teachers care about them as individuals and provide a safe, friendly environment.
I may not be able to change my students' home situation, but I can provide a positive educational experience. Many of the students live in broken homes and do not always receive the skills needed to get an early start on life. When they arrive in my class, I focus on their potential and provide positive interaction. I work hard to establish a trusting relationship with my students.
The school budget for each teacher is $100.00 which does not begin to cover my expenses throughout the year. I believe my students deserve the best so they can reach their dreams.
My Project
English and Literature lessons often require every student to view the same text for effective teaching and discussion to occur.
A document camera would allow for my classroom to use technology to a higher degree.
Today's students are excellent at understanding technology, so a document camera would be a real asset to my classroom. I would be able to open to the required text or lesson using a document camera and my Promethean Board which would easily allow for a whole class discussion. According to data, students often learn better from each other. Discussions are a fabulous way for students to share their thoughts and ideas. Your generous donation would increase my student's reading and writing abilities.
