This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Sit down", "sit still", "criss-cross applesauce". These are words we often hear when we enter a classroom. Reality is, not all students learn by sitting still, criss-cross on the carpet, or up-right at their desk. Our school is working hard to create an empowering learning environment for students.

Our school is a good size in the suburbs of Dallas, TX.

The majority of students are from low socioeconomic homes, which includes free/reduced lunch and breakfast. Although my students do not have many resources at home, I have tried my best to create a classroom environment in which my students can immerse themselves in learning. My students are loving, caring, and most importantly excited and eager to learn new things.

My Project

Studies have proven that the employees at Google headquarters are empowered and enjoy working in the environment that has been created for them. The employees at Google don't have desks or cubicles! Instead, they have been given couches, bean bags, recliners, high tables, and many more comfortable seating options to complete their work. This is the type of environment we are trying to create at my school. Not all students work well on the carpet and at their desks. Thus, these bean bag chairs, wobble cushions, and chair bouncy bands will help my students learn in a way that is more comfortable for them. In addition, these reading guides will help those students who need guidance while reading.

I have the best job in the whole world.

I get to watch my first graders bloom into young readers and writers from the first day of school to the last. The best part about being a teacher is when I see the smiles on my students' faces because they are proud of themselves and their progress. These resources will allow my students to work in a way that is engaging and empowering. I am eager to help my students with different learning styles complete work with these materials. ATPE Member
