This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students receive special education services in a self contained learning environment to help teach replacement behaviors for social and emotional deficits. Because of the wide range of grade levels in one classroom, K-4, meeting each learners academic levels can be challenging. Nonetheless, these students are capable of attaining information as their grade level peers, however must be meet with varying resources and strategies. Implementing a social skills curriculum as well as teaching state standards requires blended teaching that can be generalized out while still maintaining rigor. Some students present high achievement scores while some are low and have difficulty communicating. In all scenarios, behavior adversely effects their success. As a new teacher with many tools in my toolbox, a financial pinch can already be felt. Please consider donating to the future in my classroom!

My Project

Students who show deficits in emotional and behavioral status need an additional approach in understanding the world around them. Blending academic curriculum with a social skills program takes creativity and incorporating deliberate scenarios to prompt thinking coupled with understanding the cause and effect ones actions. Sensory items such as the wiggle seats can help learners focus on tasks at hand that are otherwise difficult. The magnetic tiles will be used to support group team-building activities to practice listening, sharing, cooperating and accepting differing view points. During group morning meetings, the prompts allow for natural conversations. These materials will support learning as well as a growth mindset as students continue to pursue their academic careers and become successful, contributing members to society.
