My students need a wall-sized periodic table, a pull-down projector screen, and 130 three-ring binders.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Chemistry is best taught in an engaging, organized environment. I teach in a high needs public school in Maryland, and I'm working hard to welcome my tenth graders into the wonderful study of matter.
As students walk into my room, they see an outdated periodic table complete with tape scars and ink stains from years of use. Their eyes pan across the chalkboard and settle on a torn projector screen somehow manufactured with a gray surface to hide any image enterprising teachers might want to display. I fear that these decaying classroom features contribute to many of my students' habit of filing most paper handouts in crevices around the room or simply stuffing them into an already overstuffed bag.
I hope to create a chemistry classroom with a current periodic table; I want to interact with my kids via an overhead projector on a screen even the students in the back can read from; and I really, really can't wait to teach my students how to organize information in a logical and easily-referenced binder. Every unit, from learning how to carry out the scientific method to atomic structure to chemical reactions, will be impacted with the classroom upgrade this project provides.
There are few things more powerful than sitting within sight of a glistening periodic table while referencing a personally organized set of notes taken from a boldly white projector screen. Your partnership in this project will empower current and future students to share such an experience.
