My Project

There is nothing more engaging to five and six year olds than hatching chicks in a kindergarten classroom. Over the 21-day life cycle, excitement builds as students observe an egg develop into a chick. It is an amazing hands-on STEM project and may be the only time these children get to observe the chicken life cycle so closely.

Hatching chicks is a memorable experience that develops a love of science and learning.

This has been my first year hatching chicks in kindergarten as part of our study of life cycles. Unfortunately the incubator that was passed on to me from another teacher is no longer working effectively. We will need a new working incubator for next year's class, some informational texts and supplies that will help me keep this unit going for years to come.
