An Effective and Efficient Glassware Cleaning Fix for Biology Students
Help me give my students a way more efficient way to clean glassware. There are no adequate sinks in my science lab, and glassware often is brought to the restrooms to be cleaned.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My biology students continuously engage in hands-on, student-centered learning and exploration activities. Many laboratory investigations involve glassware and other materials that need to be thoroughly cleaned before the next use. There are no adequate sinks in my classroom, so cleaning of glassware and other lab materials is often done in the faculty or student restrooms.
A laboratory dishwasher would help my students engage in responsibly and sustainably cleaning their lab supplies.
Dishwashers help save water - a nonrenewable resource on Earth. As a class, we would utilize the dishwasher to sustainably clean glassware, plasticware, and practice good lab techniques (e.g. maintaining a clean lab space, organizing materials, etc.). Loading and unloading the dishwasher would become another classroom job in which my students would engage.
In addition, the dishwasher would be utilized to clean dishware used for community classroom breakfasts. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch; I often bring in breakfast and/or serve snacks. It would be very helpful to have a way to sustainably clean dishes so I didn't have to transport dirty dishes home.
