My students are fun, funny, interesting, and very, very curious. Many have not traveled the world beyond El Dorado County, and some may never. Having been fortunate in my life to travel and have wonderful experiences around the world, I make sure to connect my students with global educational experiences.
We are collaborative partners with a classroom of 5th graders in Mumbai, India.
We share daily with them, exchanging ideas, photos, pictures, cultures.
Through virtual reality experiences, which have only recently been affordable for a classroom, we can bring these outside experiences into our Camino Classroom. We can visit India and reach out to touch the ocean. We can explore the wonders of the world, almost touching Mount Rushmore. We can explore places we may never see in person.
My Project
Virtual Reality in the classroom? Not only can we travel...Imagine learning chemistry inside a fully hands-on virtual lab. Learning about the body and anatomy by traveling inside a human, like on The Magic School Bus. It is possible to physically deconstruct and reconstruct cross sections of animals for biology, where you actually can move and see where each piece is and how it works. Imagine arriving in the past as you explore history through "Looking Glass", the app that brings you into a 360 degree view of a room showcasing the years 1892 - 1933. Students can listen to music, view writings, artifacts, images and more as they step back in time.
Virtual Reality is becoming an affordable tool for classrooms, with limitless possibilities...Goole Earth and Google Expeditions have allowed students to view the world in 3 dimensions.
A VR experience immerses them in that experience.
Camino School kids, my students, deserve state of the art technology to further enhance their education while fully engaging them in the learning process.
