An Education of the Heart: Bringing Books to Teens 6
My students need a collection of high interest and diverse books in our classroom, such as The Hate You Give, Dear Martin, and Turtles All The Way Down.
"A good book is an education of the heart. It enlarges your sense of human possibility, what human nature is, of what happens in the world. It's a creator of inwardness." Susan Sontag. I am looking to purchase books that will help expand my students' world views.
My students are a diverse group of teenagers who actively seek out quality books to read.
I have artists, athletes, scientists and historians in my classes. We have diverse interests, but come together in our love of good writing. They constantly crave new books to fuel their exploration of the world around them.
My Project
This collection of books includes award winners and some high-interest books (particularly about sports) that I hope will capture even the most reluctant readers in my classroom. The Hate U Give has been constantly checked out in the library, and it is an important book for my students to read. It is my hope that by providing diversity in reading material, I will help students better understand the world around them. In the past, students have loved having a fresh flood of books for our library.
Now, more than ever, it is essential that I be able to provide quality high interests texts for my students.
