My students are from low-income families that are of Hispanic and African-American descent. Most of the students speak two languages and struggle with the transitions between the languages. Some students can not afford basic school supplies, get a good night's sleep, concentrate on their educational success due to home issues that some adults never have to think about.
It is my job to provide a safe and effective environment for a successful academic future.
I focus on each of my students' needs through small group and one on one work. It is my goal to keep students engaged and focused while in small groups. I have to be very creative with this due to our school's limited funding for extra materials. These materials would help my students stay focused and productive during their center time.
My Project
My students gather to the carpet area many times throughout the day. We use chart paper to guide our mini-lessons and jot down our thoughts.
Every mini-lesson would be easier and more effective with an easel to easily write down our ideas.
The students will be able to easily add their ideas in their own writing and can help each other piggy bank on one another's ideas. The easel would be a part of every subject and every lesson taught on a daily basis. I can only imagine what I will be able to teach my students with this easel.
Each lesson could be more effective and meaningful!
