Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very talented. They can sing, play string instruments, play recorder, and put on a musical production as a team. They are relentless when working together towards a set goal. They're curious and energetic, and so very kind! Since our school is culturally-rich, they help acclimatize the students who are new to our country by translating at times, and by teaching them English words. And since music is a universal language, the students who are newcomers to the U.S. feel at ease in my class and learn quickly. Overall, my students are always ready to represent our school anywhere and anytime. They are brave kids, unafraid to show the world how great they truly are!
My Project
The screechy sound of the soprano recorder during the early stage of learning is a natural part of the process. Unfortunately, many students (and parents) give up on the instrument before they give it a real chance.
I need the recorder set to teach students about the various registers of the recorder family, to teach a STEAM unit on sound vibration, and to form the school's first Early Music Recorder Ensemble, which will mark the starting point of a year-long journey through the different periods of music.
Along with the recorder set, we also need music stands for school concerts, and the Finale music notation software to create arrangements that are in my students' appropriate level of difficulty. The live performances that will be facilitated by all the items requested will give my students a sense of empowerment that will motivate them to become better students and better musicians.
