My Students
I am currently a Kindergarten teacher in South Brooklyn, New York. I served the community of South Flatbush, which is a neighborhood I grew up in thus it is very special to me. My goal is to give back to the community and education is the perfect fit! The school community has always been warm, welcoming, and inviting with minimal funding. We are a Title I school with families who want the best for their children but are unable to provide due to their circumstances. Many of the families, unfortunately, fall below the poverty line and are currently placed in Temporary Housing. However, the school community works diligently and closely with the parents to provide the best education possible. The students are bright and eager to learn. I am proud to say that I am part of this community!
My Project
I am teaching Kindergarten Math and Social-Emotional Learning this year, serving all types of students: students with SEN, ENL, Gifted, and "Regular"- virtually! I'm so excited to see the smiling faces early in the morning, eager to learn. Virtual teaching is not easy and it becomes even harder with used school laptops that students have been using for the past five to seven years. The computers run slow, the camera doesn't work, and sometimes even the mic. isn't reliable.
This laptop will support me in facilitating live instruction, lesson planning, collaborating with colleagues who are in the building and colleagues who are not, communicating with the families of my scholars, attending staff meetings, professional development, etc.
