Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first graders come from resilient and multicultural backgrounds. With the diversity in languages and ethnicities comes a wide range of learners in acquiring mastery of social, emotional, and academic proficiency for student success. The classroom community includes students who are English Language learners, students with individualized education plans as well as students with special needs. We are part of a community school, which means we organize community resources around student success.
My students come from all walks of life, ready to learn and thrive in an academic setting.
Our school community is a wonderful and safe place to ask questions, explore, and share. As their educator, I hope to provide my students with the best learning experiences as possible to be confident in reading, writing, and exploring using high-quality materials that every student deserves.
My Project
Each day as my students come into school they strive to become strong and avid readers. I hope to provide my students with 4 sets of headphones so I can create a listening center with a plethora of diverse books to improve their reading skills. With the use of the headphones, students can listen to a wide variety of books that introduces them to new genres they might not otherwise consider, help students decode unfamiliar words, and also teaches critical listening skills our little first graders learning! With the ease of a listening center with the headphones, students can access files with the technology we have in our class with ease, and choose books that will model fluent reading, without disturbing other readers in the classroom.
My students take great pleasure in listening to stories.
The use of the headphones to listen to stories and books online will enrich their multi-sensory experiences. The use of the headphones will greatly benefit our listening center to help them focus on the sounds of the words without interruption. This can provide a wonderful opportunity for children to hear their favorite books read aloud again and again. The more they listen, the greater the likelihood that they will learn new vocabulary words and concepts. With the headphones, I hope to bring life and depth to all my students reading experiences.
