An Ear-Resistable Approach to Building Reading Skills

Help me give my students the materials they need to be successful in reading and writing. I'm requesting a listening center, comfortable seating, writing binders and book bins.

My Students

I feel very fortunate that I am able to spend my days with ambitious students who are eager to learn. I love teaching first grade because of their enthusiasm! It is truly amazing to see their growth in one short year.

My students come from various backgrounds, which makes my classroom unique!

Many of my students are raised in homes with diverse financial situations where there may be few books, and not enough time to sit down and read.

Our classroom library is where my students have an opportunity to engage in natural conversations around books. A listening center will help my students build their vocabulary, oral fluency, and help them make connections to what they see and hear throughout the text.

My Project

The supplies that I’m requesting are focused on bringing organization and interest to my students during ‘Daily 5’.

The Daily 5 consists of 5 centers: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work and Writing.

Along with adding the Daily 5 into my routine, I will also get to enrich my students with books that they will get to talk about with their friends and encourage continuous reading! The children are able to choose where and what they would like to work on.

First grade is such an exciting year for my students’. I want to provide my students the ability to have their own book bins for their personally-chosen, "just right" books! As well as personal writing binders so their work stays in one place.
