An Ear-Resistable Approach to Building Reading Skills
My students need read-along books and CDs to help create a listening center, as well as, a wireless CD player and Headphones to use during the listening center.
All Children love to listen to books! Whether it is someone reading to them before bed or listening to a book on CD, this will help broaden their understanding of the world they live in, and explore the possibilities of worlds beyond their own. Unfortunately, some children are not so lucky to have anyone reading to them at home and lack background knowledge when they come to Kindergarten. My students come from all different types of backgrounds, some with regular exposure to books and stories, others with very little "outside the classroom" experience. Throughout the year my students will be exposed to classic literary icons and contemporary characters who educate, humor and inspire them. They will learn about imaginary places and animals of Antarctica. Let’s enhance my Kindergarteners LOVE for books!
My Project
Numerous studies have shown that students with access to a listening library develop a greater interest in reading, improved literacy skills/comprehension and an increased vocabulary. It's my hope to create a listening center within my Kindergarten class with a library of stories that are familiar and unfamiliar to my students. Listening centers involve the use of headphones for students to listen to Cd's while reading along with the accompanying picture book. My students are in need of headphones, Cd's and books to use in a listening center. It is my hope that my students will increase their love for reading and strive to become better readers!
