An Ear-esistible Approach to Learning

My Students

I have a very active group of kindergarteners. In order to meet their high level of activity, I have implemented a flexible seating classroom. This year is our first true year of being 1:1 device. Each student has an iPad and we use them in all sorts of ways to help mold these youngsters into being 21st Century Learners.

I strive to create an environment where students feel save to make mistakes.

We spend the first three or so weeks talking and learning about the growth mindset. This has such a positive effect on my students.

I truly believe in one of the 7 Habits of Effective People, "Begin with the end in mind." In my classroom, that is what we do. We set individual and classroom goals for various things. Each goal has an award or celebration at the end. In years past, this has included students putting pie in my face or spraying me with silly string. I believe that things like this are highly motivating for my students.

My Project

As 21st Century Learners, my students are engaged in technology throughout the day to support their learning. Many of my students do not have headphones. This makes the classroom noise level very loud and difficult for many to concentrate. The best solution is headphones. Headphones will eliminate the noise, keep students engaged, and provide a calmer environment for all. These materials will be used to help enhance student learning on the iPad. These headphones will be used by students to listen to audio books independently, watch and listen to educational videos, and do educational apps. Most of these activities are completed independently.
