This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My scholars are AMAZING. I have had the honor of teaching them in the core areas of literacy, math and social studies. However, when they were exposed to visual art they were fascinated.
“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives." CLAY P.
BEDFORD
Being exposed to a world-class education prepares students for the rest of their lives. My students love new experiences.
My Project
Painting projects will allow my scholars to express their creativity in a free and fun manner. An artist is donating her time and expertise to come to teach my scholars. In a traditional academic environment, the left side of the brain is always used. It focuses on analytical processes and logic. My scholars need an opportunity to use the right side of the brain which is used for emotional and creative responses.
Learning to paint benefits children by using both sides of their brain.
My students will be painting on canvas with step by step instruction during the artist residency. After the residency, they will again be able to freely paint because now they will have the materials.
