Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“I love my students but meeting all their needs is breaking the bank! My students with Learning Disabilities need technology to help them to be successful-tablets with educational learning apps, text-to-speech technology and word-prediction tools all help my kids to be successful on their own!
I am the Resource teacher at Brainard Elementary School.
I go into every classroom and work in a small group with the special education students and the students who are falling behind and need extra help. The students that I work with need extra support to help them to be successful in their class. My students have learning disabilities that affect their visual processing (dyslexia), auditory processing, and cognitive processing. Some of my students also have Autism, ADHD and ADD. The students need small group support, one-on-one support and technology. The technology helps the students learn in a highly-engaging and fun way. It also helps the students to read and write with text to speech and word prediction for writing.
My Project
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement and help my students build confidence despite their different abilities. iPads help kids to learn what their typical peers are learning and write and read books like the other kids.
The kids will be able to play fun, engaging and highly educational learning apps.
Learning will be so much fun, they will remember it always and not even realize they're learning! Students will also be able to download any book from Bookshare.org and have the book read to them while each word is highlighted. This helps struggling readers and students who have difficulty focusing on reading. Writing apps help kids hear what they are typing so they can hear if it makes sense or if it needs to be revised. Writing apps also help kids organize their ideas with graphic organizers. These are great for kids that struggle with sloppy handwriting, disorganization, slow-writing and just getting their ideas down on paper!
