I am a fifth-grade teacher to fantastic scholars. I teach at a charter school located in the urban section of Wilmington Delaware. The subjects that I teach are ELA, social studies, and science. I also tutor after school to assist students that are dealing with learning struggles. We are living in critical times because of the coronavirus pandemic. Because of Covid-19, all of my classes are fully virtual until further notice. Many of my students lack adequate resources to be successful to learn virtually, such as high-speed internet and having the support of a positive learning environment.
The assistance of a new laptop will allow me to better access the curriculum. Many of my students have complained about not being able to complete their homework and classwork because of the lack the resources. Daily, I press the reset button before the start of class. My goal is to continue to give my students unconditional love, motivation, guidance, and hope.
This project will help students who need extra support in reading and comprehension to meet learning goals.
The use of a new laptop allows me to teach shared reading in many ways. For students that are reading below grade level, students will be able to listen to audio daily through the use of technology for differentiating instruction. Students will learn basic alphabet knowledge, using letter sounds, blends digraphs, r-controlled vowels, vowels consonant e, and vowel teams. We spend 15 minutes daily working on these skills. To add, books that are assigned for choral reading can be uploaded on google slides during the shared reading block, since many of the students do not have books.
