This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Once upon a time students would give apples to the teacher as a sign of appreciation. The goal of my project is to return the favor and give apples to the students – Apple iPads that is.

My students get very excited when they are given the chance to use technology.

They love coming up to the front of the room to use the Smart Board or sitting around the listening center to read along with a new book. They simply love using technology of any kind. The problem is, there isn’t always enough to go around. Many of the students do not have access to a computer - or tablet, or (gasp!) iPhone – at home. I teach 4th grade students who live in the inner-city and attend the local community public school. Many don’t have the luxury of technology to supplement their learning at home. So they are full of energy and really get excited when they are able to use technology in school.

My Project

Having iPads in the classroom would really get my students excited about learning. The iPads could be used both individually and in small groups, with all different types of learners. The endless amount of applications and programs could help students in practically any subject. Want to see where the Iroquois lived? Just use an app with interactive maps. Want to create your own story with words and pictures? As they say, “There’s an app for that too.” Besides the obvious (using an iPad is fun!), I believe it is essential that students get practice using new technology like computers and tablets. In a world where technology is constantly evolving and becoming an essential part of our lives, using iPads in class would give my students practice with new technology.

Having iPads in class will really get the students excited to learn.

The endless learning applications that can be used will bring out the creativity in my students, while providing valuable learning with modern technology they might not have access to at home.
