Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a curious group of 8-9 year olds. They are constantly asking questions and wanting to know how things work. Their minds are always wanting to make things better and easier. They will come up with ways of how something in the classroom can be more effective and efficient.
Since they are always wanting to improve things, we make time for STEM/ STEAM projects in the classroom.
Whether it is for reading (what can we create to make the animal survive in its habitat), science (what can we create to help a house stay safe from a natural disaster), social studies (what tool can we create to help a farming community in the central valley), and math (drawing up a rollercoaster).
There are a copious amount of apps that the students can use to draw and CODE these ideas and see their thinking and creativeness come to life. This iPad and Apple Pencil will get my students excited for the technological and higher order thinking that awaits them and gets them excited to be lifelong learners. The Apple Pencil will be used for the drawing app to draw and sketch their outline for the projects they will be creating. Using the Apple Pencil and iPad, they will draw blueprints for the projects they are working on.
These items will really help my students because we live in a world where technology is our future. Students are now learning to use the iPad to make Powerpoint slides, to make videos, to code, and type their essays. It's important for them to start learning how to use technology in a higher order thinking way at a young age so they can be adept when they are older.
