Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I never really considered all the things an iPad could offer to my class. I recently got the chance to play around with my brother's iPad.. it is amazing!!
*/My students are from a high poverty school in Southern California.
I have a classroom of 24 students. The majority are English Language Learners who receive free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work. Some are latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity.
My Project
For the majority of my students learning with technology is not a part of their lives. Of course they have a DS or Wii, but most do not have access to computers and certainly not an iPad. I have watched science concepts come alive with the help of an iPad. Seasons changing, the Earth's rotation, plants growing, animals catching their prey can all be watched on an iPad. We can hook it up to the classroom projector to be projected onto a large screen for the whole class to see. Just about any science, math or social students lesson can be enhanced with the help of an iPad. The numerous apps available can help aid in any lesson, as well as keep the kids motivated and up to date on technology.
This project is important to me because my students do not come to school with a lot of back ground knowledge.
They need the extra visual experience to fully comprehend the lessons. They also need to experience the different types of technology that other children are using on a daily basis.
