Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are the some of the most talented, interesting, and motivated group of children that I've ever met. However, they are faced with many barriers that prevent them from working to their full potential. Those barriers include low income, single parent homes, living in a minority neighborhood and lacking in technology.

They each share a strong desire to learn to read, write, and solve problems.

That's why having an interactive classroom where they can escape and fall in love with reading, writing, and problem solving is so important to me.

My Project

This computer will help me work with my students differentiated needs by using available apps that will assist them with communication and other skills. The computer will allow students access to apps designed for special education. This will help reach those students who may have learning disabilities or reach those who might otherwise be disengaged.

I will also use it for documentation of their IEPs, in which they will have an e-portfolio, where they will be able to upload their work, that will be used to exhibit their talent during their IEP meetings or parent conferences.

The iMac has wonderful programs so I can create videos to aide in their learning, slide shows for the tv in our hallways, and videos to post on social media so parents can feel engaged since they are not allowed on campus due to Covid-19 precautions. This could be slides or videos focused on our Fundations literacy and phonics lessons, Engage NY math activities, or just the students' smiling faces.

We deserve access to up to date technology. This computer will allow me to provide this access to them and make learning more engaging and fun. It will also allow me to better prepare to meet my students' needs every day.
