Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How grand it would be to have the power to experience the world of learning through a simple touch!

My class is filled with 20 vibrant, eager learners.

They come from a community filled with poverty, homelessness, and crime but they are filled with hope. These children attend a public school in an industrial and commercial community of New York City. The school has a high African-American and Hispanic population. Many of the students have parents who have newly immigrated to the United States from Africa or Mexico. The rest of the student body consist of students whose families have lived in the community for generations. These students are motivated to achieve the American dream and make their families proud of their achievements.

My Project

My students love technology. They are excited about using modern technology tools in the classroom. One such tool is the Apple iPad Mini. The iPad Mini is filled with opportunities for students to learn in different ways. The wealth of apps could help students with phonics, spelling, math, social, studies, science, health, and technology. Students would be able to explore the world outside of the walls of the classroom. They would have instant access to books, maps, works of art, virtual field trips, music, and movies. They will be able to research topics, take notes, create movies and charts, and play musical instruments. All of these experiences will be valuable aspects of their overall learning experiences. The engaging, interactive quality of the iPad Mini makes it so much more appealing to students than desktop computers. The iPad Mini takes into account different learning styles and modalities.

Many of these students have low reading and math scores but they have shown improvement over the past few months.

They want to learn more and be successful in their academic careers. They work hard every day to meet benchmark goals however they need more educational tools. The iPad Mini is a technology tool that can greatly enhance their educational experiences. This is a tool that students can use for a variety of educational purposes. The best part is that it delivers instant, interactive fun.
