"What year are we actually preparing our kids for?" is a quote from Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs, an author and internationally recognized education leader. This quote has propelled me to write this proposal for my students' advancement in a digital age.
Every day, I have the privilege to facilitate the learning process for 26 students assigned to me for mathematics.
They crave more interactions with technology on a daily basis. We are housed in a suburban school with over 900 students enrolled.
The digital age requires educators to upgrade our current curricula. The iPads will allow for individual instruction and assessment. A variety of apps will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of mathematical concepts by annotating, explaining, and recording their explanations.
The use of these devices will make students math learning come to life and seem relevant.
Digitally literate people are those who "can use technology strategically to find and evaluate information, connect and collaborate with others, produce and share original content and use the Internet and technology as tools to achieve academic, professional, and personal goals." The integration of more technology with authentic learning activities will prepare my students to be successful in the 21st century digital age.
