This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in one of the highest poverty school districts in the state, my students are faced with daily challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, I am aiming for school to be a safe place where my students can learn, express themselves and their creativity.

My students come from diverse linguistic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

My classroom is a fully inclusive classroom filled with the most enthusiastic and creative learners. This means there are both general and special education students learning together and from one another. Day in and day out, I'm amazed at how they look at the world. Their sense of wonder, curiosity and enthusiasm for learning makes me excited for what the future holds.

My Project

Imagine captivating an audience of 5-year-olds in the classroom. This is a challenging task to begin with, especially in a time where video games, television, and the iPad reign supreme in a young child's eyes. Now imagine a slew of additional distractions at home including toys, siblings, pets, and snacks. The teacher's task of merely engaging a child online becomes an uphill battle.

This is why I am asking for some simple technology devices that will allow me to successfully implement distance learning in my classroom.

Teachers need better technology to be able to provide content to students that will engage them in learning again. An iPad and Apple pen drastically expands what I can provide to my students in terms of curriculum. I can have the ability to use apps such as Whiteboard and Sidecar which will allow me to screen share and have my students write as if they were still in the classroom. I can also use the iPad as a "whiteboard" to teach my kindergartners critical skills such as letter formation. I know that with these new devices, I can create an online classroom environment that I will be proud of.
