My Students

My kids are brilliant, inquisitive children, many of whom live in the nearby housing projects and homeless shelters. Their parents work extremely long hours to provide for their children, but many of my students come from homes where English is not the primary language. My students work very hard, and that hard work pays off: many of them attend some of the best high schools in New York City!

My children never cease to amaze me.

When describing the relationship between two characters in a fictional text, one student said, "Oh, you mean they have a symbiotic relationship?" symbolic relationship? I was floored. It was - once again - an example of how my students teach one another, and me, as much as I teach them.

My Project

Two years ago, people generously donated to my project for a classroom set of Chromebooks. Now, however, five of them no longer work, even after having taken them myself to be serviced by professionals. I'm asking for five new Chromebooks for my kids because we use them for everything: research, drafting/crafting essays, Google Classroom and other digital assignments, and reading fluency. They are vital to our learning.

Apple TV may not be an obvious choice for use in a school, but it is life-changing!

Apple TV allows me to connect wirelessly to either my laptop or the iPad and freely walk around the room while effortlessly manipulating what my students see on the whiteboard. The iPad would allow me to write directly on documents in real time without having to stop, walk back to the front of the room, and erase the notations I made directly on the whiteboard.
