Over 99% of the student population receives free or reduced lunches. The students I serve are diagnosed with dyslexia. Dyslexia is a brain-based genetic trait that makes reading, writing, and spelling difficult. Although children with dyslexia may have trouble with written language, it has nothing to do with a lack of intellect. These children are bright and talented individuals who just need a different approach to learning. In fact, many successful entrepreneurs such as Richard Branson, Henry Ford, and Charles Schwab are dyslexic. I try to look at the big picture for my students and go beyond just teaching them reading, writing, and spelling skills.
Help me give my students please access to supplemental literacy applications (anger mangaement toys and stress balls) and equipment (24" iMsc) for dyslexia.
Since we live in a high poverty area, I think it is important to teach them life skills, such as financial literacy, that they may not get elsewhere. We just need the right tools to make this kind of learning possible.
