This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Of all the schools in our large county, our school services the most homeless shelters. It is in the middle of a low-income neighborhood in South Florida. About 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and about twenty percent of students live in one of the four shelters around our school. Needless to say, COVID-19 has drastically impacted our community and our students. While my students are learning from home, they face many challenges.
Yet, despite the many challenges they face, most of my students continue to have that inquisitive sparkle and a sense of curiosity when their interests are peaked.
My Project
Teaching a group of active kiddos during a pandemic has been quite a challenge. I never expected to be teaching virtually, but have learned and quickly developed different techniques to teach content lessons during our Zoom lessons. My goal is to deliver lessons that are engaging and inspire active student participation.
With the help of an iPad and Apple Pencil, my lessons will be alluring and will allow for maximum teaching, coaching, and learning opportunities.
These much needed technological tools are essential in simulating my school classroom teaching. For my students it is paramount to consistently use a variety of teaching strategies, tools, resources, and media in order to gain a deep understanding of concepts. Teaching remotely makes it challenging to actively intrigue students in the lesson, but with the right technology it is possible.
