My Students

Have you ever heard the saying there's no "I" in team? Well there is certainly no "I" in our classroom, either! The only "I" we'll stand for in our class is that which brings students together; iPads.

My students attend school in a low income neighborhood where they do not have access to as many educational resources and materials as their neighboring Manhattan schools.

99% of our families are entitled to receive free and reduced price lunches due to their level of income. As a result of their income, large numbers of our community members do not own computers or technology. Despite these obstacles standing in the way of their success, our students continuously strive to be better students and spend a great portion of their lives attending school, after-school, and Saturday school.

My Project

As these students dedicate so much of their lives to schooling, I can't help but want to dedicate some of my time to providing them with more opportunities for success. This one iPad will make a big difference in many of their lives. Applications which allow for eBook readers will help provide my students with a greater library of books. Other educational resources such as Khan Academy will challenge my students to become problem solvers. Free applications such as Math Drills will help my students become fluent in memorizing numerical facts, pushing them to be more successful in math. Teacher applications will help me track and analyze student data to help lessons become more effective. Technology offers great opportunities for students. It helps to enrich and supplement their curriculum for now. Furthermore, it aids them in becoming college and career ready in the future.

Even though the students and community I work with may be considered "disadvantaged," they take advantage of every opportunity that they receive.

With your help, we can strengthen our school community and classroom of learners by reminding them that there's no "I" in team or classroom and that student success is only the result of a village of people, such as yourselves, dedicated to their cause.
