Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students I teach miss out on a lot of other opportunities comparable to gen ed students.
The population I teach is high needs, cognitively young, and need prompting to execute most tasks.
Specifically, the demographic of students I teach range from autistic to wheelchair bound.
Despite their disabilities the students display ability to advocate for their desires in their own way and elicit joy.
Because the students don’t often get a chance to get out of the school whether through field trips or school events, I wanted to host a prom that would give them a feel comparable to the gen ed population. The backdrops, decorations, and fairy lights will help to go with the theme and the items myself and other colleagues are building to make for a beautiful experience. Additionally due to the severity of needs the students cannot have a prom at night and it has to be during the school day, thus that means maximizing decorations to change the space of the lunchroom during the school day.
I’m grateful for everyone that donated to the first project I created related to this. Unfortunately the list closed before I could add these items which is why the list is so small. Thank you for your help with making this happen!
