My Students
My students are "Gladiators"! They come to school prepared and ready to learn despite the obstacles they face daily. My school is a Title I school, so over 90% of the students come from low-income families and receive free or reduced lunch.
Although many of the students face hardships they look forward to coming to school.
It is their place of solitude to get away from the problems at home. They work hard and put forth an honest effort to ensure their success in this challenging environment. They are eager to connect with the content and apply their knowledge to real-world experiences. My students genuinely want to succeed in this amazing subject and I am here to help them accomplish their goals. The classroom is where they are free to make mistakes and grow from them.
My Project
The document camera will allow me to continue to act more as a facilitator in our student-centered classroom. It will allow me to turn individual assignments into great instructional resources for the classroom. For example, I can use it as a graphing tool, highlighter, test review, display, and open discussion. The microphones will be used to assist students in learning how to communicate. We use instructional tools like FlipGrid to have student voices amplified in the classroom. They are able to have a dialogue on content materials by justifying and explaining their responses to math problems. A lot of times the students are shy and not use to hearing their own voice, so the quality is not that great. However, the use of the microphones will assist with receiving and hearing better sound quality. In addition, it gives me an opportunity to model to the students how to use their voice as 21st-century learners inside and outside of the classroom.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their communication skills and academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their voice is loud enough for everyone to hear. In this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
