Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach 7th and 8th grade history, but am a passionate musician. Our school does not have the resources to provide music classes for every student, so I teach a guitar elective.

My students ask me almost every day "do we get to paly guitars today?

They love having the chance to learn music they like, from Green Day to Ariel Camacho. I've also seen students who struggle in other areas excel at guitar class. Earning positive affirmation from their friends and family for making music can help these students develop a positive sense of self-worth. Music helps students feel proud of themselves, excited to come to school, and connected to the those around them.

Right now, we have only one amplifier and one electric guitar for our guitar class. That means that our students have to take turns playing the electric and the bass. They want to be able to play bass as well as both electric guitars during performances.

I am asking for your help to purchase a second guitar and amplifier, so that my amazing students have the opportunity to practice the instruments they love and perform for their family and friends! Without this amplifier and guitar, my students will not be able to play their preferred instruments or perform as an ensemble!
