This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Computer Literacy/Computer Science to 450 students at a magnet school in a low-income district. As magnet school students, they are held to high standards and expect more from their education.

My students are excited about learning and love coming to the computer lab.

They are fortunate to have a computer lab and computer class once or twice a week, since in many cases, they have limited access to technology at home. In addition to learning the crucial technology skills that they need in the 21st Century, technology also helps them improve in their other academic areas.

My Project

To inspire my students to improve their typing skills, I host annual typing tournaments for grades 3-8. I want to offer some fabulous first place prizes to make the tournaments as exciting and motivating as possible. Therefore I'm requesting Dash and Dot and Cue robots, as well as a LittleBits Electronic Music Inventor Kit. These prizes will not only motivate them to do well in the tournament, but will also provide the winners with an educational STEM tool to use at home.

By providing the first place prizes for the tournament you will be giving my students the motivation to become better typists.

Great typing skills will benefit my students in other areas of school, especially in writing. Now that many standardized tests are administered online, it's even more pertinent that they be able to type quickly and easily. If students learn how to type well now, this important skill will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
