My Students

What a chance for our school library! Our students love the 'American Chillers' series; however, we only have around twenty (pretty beat-up) titles. Enter AKJ Books, with a 50% MATCHING OFFER on THIRTY-SEVEN 'American Chillers' books. Please help us get these books to our kids.

Gabriela is an impossibly cute 3rd grader with a passion for scary stories. She KEEPS asking me when the library is going to get more 'American Chillers' stories...and I don't know what to say to her. Well, here is Gabriela's chance! Most of the kids who will read these books are in 3rd thru 5th grade. That's around 300 children. They attend a K-8 Center in South Florida. We are near some fancy hotels and restaurants. Our kids live a few blocks away from these, in less fancy circumstances. Their parents tend to be immigrants who work in the tourist resorts. Over 80% of our kids receive free or reduced lunch. And over 80% learn English here in school. In short, our wonderful kids really need a helping hand. They love their library, which is often the only place that they're really exposed to English-language books.

My Project

Kids often go through a phase around 3rd grade, sometimes a little later, when they are attracted to anything ghoulish, freaky, scary... name your adjective. If you have children around that age, you'll know just what I mean. That's where series like 'American Chillers' come in to their own. The kids find them more funny than frightening, by the way. With titles like 'Creepy Condors of California', 'Michigan Mega Monsters' and 'New York Ninjas', you can appreciate why. The kids devour 'American Chillers'. They can't get enough of them.

It's a dead cert that the books this project is asking for will be read time and time again.

We know that because our current 'American Chillers' books circulate so well - but, because they are so popular, they are getting really battered. We need to replace them. The 50% matching offer from AKJ books allows us to do that AND expand the collection. Remember, we only have about 20 titles and AKJ Books are offering 37! This is just too good an opportunity to miss! Please consider helping us out.
