My Students
My students are creative, caring, and eager to learn. Although my students come from different backgrounds, many of them face struggles stemming from institutional racism and poverty. The art room is a place for them to freely explore materials and ideas, express their autonomy, and have fun!
My Project
My dream is to make our student's art room an oasis they look forward to each week. Much like most school classrooms, we have large overhead fluorescent lights in the art room. Fluorescent lights feel harsh and sterile - not ideal for calm artmaking.
Providing additional ambient lighting for the art room will help to create a calm and inviting studio for our students.
I already have two lamps, a string of holiday lights, and two large windows in the art room. The small LED push lights will hang over our classroom sink, and the world globe lamp will be placed on top of our class bookshelf. The sink and bookshelf are the two final places in the classroom that need additional lighting.
