This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My middle school students face daily challenges that often impact their emotional and mental well-being. Living in a fast-paced urban environment, they carry stress and anxiety into the classroom. To help them find balance and focus, I have introduced restorative yoga as part of our classroom routine. Yoga has become a meaningful way for my students to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with themselves.

However, our current classroom setting does not support the calming nature of yoga.

The fluorescent lighting is harsh and overstimulating, making it difficult for students to fully relax during our yoga sessions. What we need is a shift in atmosphere. By adding soft ambient lamps, we can create a peaceful and welcoming space that enhances every yoga experience.

With gentle lighting, students will be able to fully immerse themselves in yoga practice, helping them feel safe, grounded, and calm. These lamps will support a more mindful environment, encouraging students to stay present, breathe deeply, and release the tension they carry with them each day.

Yoga has already brought a sense of calm and focus to our classroom. With your support, we can take it a step further by transforming our space into a true sanctuary for student wellness. These lamps will not just light up our room; they will help light the way toward better mental health and emotional balance for every student who enters.
