Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special, not because they are my students, but because they want to learn. They come from varied backgrounds: single parent, no parent (living with grandparents or aunts/uncles), no income, one income. Several of my students are from a military family, and a couple of them have either mom or dad who is deployed at this time. Many of my students are either on free lunch or reduced lunch program.

But through it all, the thing that unites our students is their desire to learn.

These are my kids, as much as my own children are my kids, and I try to give them the best I possibly can. They are excited when they enter my classroom, and even more so when they are allowed to read and use the books I have collected that are a part of my classroom library.

My Project

Technology in the classroom is a necessity in our world. Without it, our students will not have the benefit of programs such as Prodigy and Woot Math for math practice, and iStation for reading. Utilizing Nearpod and Plickers make instruction more exciting both for the teacher and the students. Tablets allow for more research as the students will not have to wait to use the school's technology.

With these new tablets, my students will be more engaged and will increase their knowledge base by practicing math and reading on the various sites available.

It is so difficult to compete for our students' attention to the technology that is available to students. The games, apps, and so many different platforms that are available make traditional teaching boring to many of our kids. Having more technology in the classroom will help me to engage my students, and will increase their success because they are willing to learn.
