"Let's read Superstars!" we say daily as we begin reading! Then we say, "The more you read, the better you read, so read, read, read!" We engage students is a variety of reading through books read aloud and on the Internet. We are eager to learn about our world in the sciences utilizing Tablets!
My Title I, high-poverty, public, urban school class has 19 Kindergartners, 5-6 years old, who learn best exploring adventures in the world of reading, with concepts for their real life.
Many without books or computers at home. Reading with technology learning allows for differentiated instruction. We have two old computers, one with no Internet access, and two laptops, which are used ALL day. Accelerated reading Internet programs using Tablets would reinforce their skills. They listen to books and take quizzes for AR on the computer. This data helps me to meet their needs. Our school's focus on literacy and science to improve learning. Our achievement is below level, and the State rating is a "D"-rating due to poor performing students. Developing young students with appropriate skills in vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency, utilizing technology will help them to succeed! Research shows when students are given ample opportunities to read with a variety of books and readers,they will soar in reading!
My Project
"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths," Walt Disney said. With new Tablet technology, and a protective cover, case, and headphones, we will be able to utilize the Internet capability to increase student achievement in literacy and the sciences. Disney truly knew the needs of children! When we inspire student's curiosity, we lead students to learn new things beyond our wildest dreams! Utilizing the Tablet, students will go to Internet sites where they will listen to a variety of people read to them. One site involves famous actor/actresses reading their favorite book just like they are in our presence, making books come alive. Other sites provide students pictures to enrich their science vocabulary. Accelerated Reader has science books at student's level, giving a quiz to help with comprehension. When student's understand what they read, engaged in the text and learn that science is fun!
Remember when you learned to read?
You had a favorite book that was read at home or school. You asked for this book to be read over and over again. You didn't know but this was helping you become an AMAZING READER. You honed in on your comprehension skills by hearing it read repeatedly, your vocabulary learning new words, and your fluency becoming an accomplished reader of this story. Amazing Tech Talk brings us into the 21st century with Tablets to "TALK" to us. What an AMAZING way to learn!
