Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you love math? I do and I want the same for my students! I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title I school. Over 70% of the students are Hispanic and are learning the English language.
My students are eager to learn and I want them to have the tools to help that happen!
Due to the language barrier and other socioeconomic factors(including the pandemic), my students are not currently working on their grade level. They do not have the necessary prior knowledge or materials at home and have fallen behind their peers in mathematics. This is especially true since the pandemic. Many of them are not enthusiastic about learning math because it is difficult for them. It is hard for them to learn material on their grade level because they lack number sense and the basic skills. The lack of resources and structure during the Covid-19 quarantine also did not help my students.
My Project
I would love to use these materials within my math groups. The Addition and Subtraction Flip Books would be a wonderful resource to have my students strengthen their fluency skills. The game buzzers and additional resources would be fun to review skills and practice new skills. The spinner is something that I can use to differentiate instruction and create engaging activities. The magnetic storage caddy would be a great organizational tool for the class. The teacher resource books, 180 Days of Math for grades 2 and 3, would be helpful to use for differentiation as well. Most of all, the Emoji keychains would be used to motivate my students. The students love them and they can be used as positive reinforcement in so many ways! Finally, the disinfecting wipes would allow me to ensure all surfaces in the room are disinfected and clean for my students, in order to keep them safe and healthy!
