This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a Math Interventionist and I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title I school. Over 70% of the students are Hispanic and are learning the English language. Our elementary school has the highest number of Multilingual Learners in the state of South Carolina!
My students are eager to learn Math!
Due to the language barrier and other socioeconomic factors, my students are not currently working on their grade level, and many of them are two or more grade levels behind. Many of them are not enthusiastic about learning math because it is difficult for them. It is hard for them to learn material on their grade level because they lack number sense and the basic skills.
The materials that have been selected for this project would enable me to provide my students with engaging learning activities! The Active Learning Counting Game and Mix and Match Card Game will provide resources that my students will love. I can use these activities to promote number identification and number sense while having fun. The Number Slap Jack Card Game would be an awesome resource to help reinforce the Number Sense skills for my first and second graders. The various other materials, such as baggies and wipes, would be helpful as well for my class!
