This year we got a pet for our library- an Axolotl. If you don't know what that is, ask any child under the age of 17 and they can tell you! Made popular by the game Minecraft, these "water lizards" are a fun, engaging addition to our school and the students (and adults) just love our "Lottie!"
Getting students excited about reading is so important!
Not only are students able to read by our Axolotl, I developed a fun time for students to come in and do quiet reading with a mini axolotl and a flashlight. Additionally, our aquatic friend has become an unexpected source of calm for students who just need a little break. If I could show you the multitude of pictures made, stuffed animals donated, even clay art made for Lottie, you would surely see the love our school has for her. I honestly could not have imagined the impact this classroom pet has made on our school, and the excitement and joy the students has been so rewarding to me.
These additional books and materials would be very useful, as the few books I have are always being checked out. In addition, the stickers and bookmarks as well as the more practical items needed for animal husbandry would be a blessing to us!
I cannot wait to show you all the fun we have with our "Lottie"!
