My Project
Our school's readers love to visit the media center to check out books for independent reading. When students finish a book that they like, they will often return the book to the media center and ask if there are more books by the same author for them to read and enjoy. Just like adult readers, beginning readers find what they like--and they want more!
This project will bring our readers the newest picture books and early graphic novels written by their favorite authors to keep them engaged in and excited about reading.
It includes titles by popular authors/illustrators such as Mo Willems, Jory John, Peter Reynolds, and Greg Pizzoli, and the next books in some of the most popular early graphic novel series in our media center.
Having new books by popular authors helps us to capitalize on student interest and develop a lifelong love of reading. It also shows our readers that their voice is included in selecting the materials on the shelves in our media center. When students have choice and voice, their reading skills are more likely to grow along with their overall engagement in reading. That's a win for everyone!
