This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love coming to art. They come from very low income families, and get to experience a bit of escapism from their daily struggles by learning new information in a fun, hands-on, collaborative environment.

My students are wonderful children who love art and also love to READ!

All of my students enjoy reading books if they are done with their project ahead of schedule or come into my class outside of their art class time. They love hearing anecdotes about famous artists, or discovering a new famous piece of artwork.

My Project

These books will be used in a variety of ways in my classroom. Often my district lacks substitute teachers, and that teacher's students are split between all other specials classes. Meaning from time to time I have an additional 10 students in my room who would love to do something art related. On days like these, artist books would be a wonderful mini-lesson. Also, I look forward to reading these books to my students when we work on a project influenced by a famous artist. Reading and learning about Vincent Van Gogh while working on a project influenced by the Starry Night will add much more depth to their learning.

As an art teacher I try to expose my students to as much of the art world as possible in the short time that I have them.

By providing them with these necessary tools, they will have a much better understanding of art, why it is important, and the Master Artists who helped shape it.
