My students need books, a farm puzzle set, and an animal photo library.
This project expired on April 30, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are very inquisitive about the world around them and love the opportunity to explore it in any way they can. At this time it is mostly through books and other types of learning materials and educational media. This is our starting point as we journey into the wonderful world of animals!
The majority of my students come from working-class families, in the lower socio-economic group.
Racially, they are African-American and Latino (many of the latter being first generation), whose education levels will typically be higher than their parents. This causes a serious gap in the level of advantages they have compared to children in other parts of our city and state. Many of my students are extremely bright and willing to do their best in school, despite the obstacles their family lives and/or communities place in front of them. It goes without saying that these students deserve the same type of quality educational experience that so many of their California peers are fortunate to have.
The books I am requesting will be used to enhance our classroom's mini-library. Already in place is a variation of sections on different subjects, and I would like to fortify our section on animals. It was a unit they not only loved, but was one of great importance in their curriculum this school year. These materials will allow my students to not only increase their reading skills but with the puzzles I'm requesting, their visual perceptual, fine motor, critical thinking, memory, reasoning, and sequencing skills will be enhanced as well.
This project will make for an incredible addition to what is becoming our classroom's ever-growing mini-library.
All aspects of learning, no matter how great or small, mean so much to the children in my school's community.
