I am a twenty-nine-year-old teacher of a class of twenty-nine bright, amazing, and lovable second-grade students. I work in a very impoverished area in the South Bronx. I receive very little help and support from my school. I am left on my own to purchase whatever it is that my kids need to learn and prosper. I buy as much as I can with my own money, but that only goes so far. What we tend to take for granted, like owning a simple book, is GREATLY appreciated by my kids. I wish I could give my kids everything that they need in order to learn and thrive. One thing that is clearly lacking in my classroom is books about holidays. My children come from various ethnic backgrounds and are not familiar with many holidays. I love educating them on different holidays that they have never heard of before. They become so interested and engaged when I tell them about holidays. Many times I have to just tell them about the holidays without having a book with pictures and further information to read about. They are missing out on so much. I would love to receive various books that I have picked out my my children on holidays. These books will aid in my teaching and GREATLY aid in my students' learning. My kids and I would be very grateful to receive these special books.
