This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work in a New York City Title I public school, where I am given the unique opportunity to work with middle schoolers of all backgrounds and cultures. In the science classroom, this diverse group of children work together to learn about challenging science concepts such as genetics, biochemistry, and the environment. They are also provided with the opportunity to think critically to solve problems which will translate into their future work in high school, college, and their careers.
My amazing scholars not only think critically about complex science topics but also accomplish this while exercising their skills in English and Spanish, granting them the bilingual advantage that will help them in their future endeavors.
The use of an iPad will help bring my lessons to life while allowing me to move around the classroom in order to help keep my students engaged. In addition to the various capabilities of an iPad, such as creating engaging presentations and interacting with virtual labs, the iPad will also allow me to gather information about my students' progress while they are learning. Assessment drives instructions. With this valuable information, I can differentiate and tailor my lessons to meet the needs of my students. The drawing tool of the iPad and Apple pencil will help me use visuals and images that I can write on in order to explain challenging tasks. It also allows me to use my creativity and create drawings and videos in both English and Spanish that help my students understand various challenging scientific concepts.
