My students are great readers and aspiring writers. They enjoy reading a wide variety of books and many will sit on our map rug to look at their books while waiting for whatever is next during their visit.
My students are curious about the world around them.
They love it when we have author visits or Skype meetups with classes from other places which require them sitting on the floor in front of the webcam.
Our school contains grades K-6 and we have about 530 students in our building.
My Project
Before our school closed due to Covid 19, our school library carpeting was in dire need of replacement. However, one area in front of our Smartboard was covered by a 9x12 carpet map of the United States of America.
This carpet was the source of many conversations about our country and led to all kinds of conversation about where we live, places we visited, places we wanted to visit and states where family members live.
The 9x12 carpet was donated by a volunteer organization.
Right after school closed, the carpeting in the entire room was replaced. However, our map rug was disposed of and now we desperately would like another map rug for our students to sit on.
