My Students
This year I will be entering a new school with a very diverse population of children. I am excited for this new opportunity to grow as an educator and reach a new population of students. This school has a large population of Hispanic children and African American children with other ethnicities lower. I'm am excited for new relationships and expanding my teaching abilities through being challenged at this new school. The school year starts in just a few weeks and I am very excited!
My Project
The book Wonder by R.J. Palacio focuses on a child's differences and how he is bullied during his fifth grade year. This book opens children's eyes to how their actions have consequences and shows them how groups of students supporting one another can help change lives. This book teaches to always choose kindness.
Combining Wonder and NC Common Core reading standards will tie our learning targets and learning how to show kindness together into a powerful tool.
Teaching reading through novels is a great way to meet our learning target all while getting students engaged in reading.
In a world that is struggling to come together, I find that there is no better of a time than the present to teach fifth graders the importance of creating a classroom family through supporting one another and showing kindness.
