Teaching in small groups enables teachers to reach specific instructional needs of students with more one-on-one interaction with students. When attempting to hold a small group at a rectangle table this can tend to be quite difficult. Regardless of where I place myself at the table it is difficult to be able to interact with all five to six students individually due to the length and shape of the table. A U-shaped table would allow me to sit in the middle and access all of my students at once simply by shifting my direction to the left or right. This will allow me to work with five to six students at once in a small guided reading group or math intervention group but also work individually with the students if necessary.
