Help me give my students the world on paper; we really need books!

My kids are a diverse group of 4th graders who share the fact that they come from homes where many of the families struggle financially. Our school is designated Title I with almost all students receiving free and reduced-price lunches. The parents are involved to the best of their abilities, as their work and our school schedules don't always match up, so volunteers and donations are not plentiful, but they do try!
I try to teach the kids the value of hard work and learning as much as you can in order to get ahead in life.
I would like to make their learning as much fun as possible. Having the necessary supplies in the classroom is paramount to easing the stress and making the learning environment a fun and safe place. Too often, children go home worried about resources. I'd like school to be a place they don't have to worry about having enough!
Reading is one of the most important skills we learn. Reading books opens the world to us, allowing us to experience things we might never have known about if we relied on our personal life events to bring us to every possibility. In my classroom, I use picture books to teach my students because they are engaging, colorful, and simpler than chapter books; but they still expose the kids to the information that they need to learn. More than half of my kids have scored below a 3 on the state test and they struggle with reading. The picture/mentor texts are easier to understand yet still complex enough to offer a challenge in learning the skills that the standards require us to teach, and that good readers need to become successful.
I have been accessing many of the picture/mentor texts that I use via youtube, but it is difficult for my students to look for things in the text while the book is being read aloud on Youtube.
We really need to have at least one copy of the book available for kids to hold in their hand and look for details, figurative language, character traits, etc.
